In a field of six competitors, Louis-Philippe Roy and Fashion Frenzie started from Post 3. They were three wide heading into the first turn. Day At The Gym soared from Post 4 and Logan Park also left Post 2. Roy cleared Logan Park to the lead driver and Fashion Frenzie continued to race. Fashion Frenzie recorded a :28 first quarter and a :56.1 second. Publicity Seeker was looking at Fashion Frenzie as he approached the 1:25.1 three-quarters. However, the fan favourite battled down the stretch to earn his second Gold Series title in a personal best of 1:53.1.
Lexus Kody finished second, just ahead of pocket-sitter Logan Park who settled for third. All three top finishers were sires Archangel.
“I was a little bit nervous when I saw him three-wide in the first turn, but then he controlled that,”Richard Moreau, Puslinch trainer, ON. “And then the horse (Publicity Seeker) come first-over and I thought, ‘Here we go; I’m done. No, I’m still there,’ and I held my breath.”
FASHION FRENZIE REPLAY
Last year’s Super Final winner, Fashion Frenzie was also a winner in the sophomore Gold Series season opener at Woodbine Mohawk Park on July 1. He made an immediate break and finished fifth at Rideau Carleton Raceway’s July 11 leg. He was then a hard-closing 2nd at Woodbine Mohawk Park’s Aug. 9 leg.
“He is hyper and game. It is stressful to manage his energy, especially at Mohawk,”Moreau said. “He’s quiet at the farm, not too bad, he’s used to the routine, but once you get to Mohawk… he’s maturing, let’s put it this way.
“He’s not impressive size-wise, but he has a beautiful gait,”Moreau was also added “There’s a good reason to get up in the morning and look after this one.”
Moreau trains Fashion Frenzie, Pierre Guillemette, Sylvain Richard and Sylvain Richards of Becancour. Moreau said Francis Richard, who selected the gelding from the 2019 London Selected Yearling Sale for $7,000 and taught him his early lessons, deserves much of the credit for Fashion Frenzie’s success, which has seen him earn just shy of $395,000 to date.
With his growing maturity, Fashion Frenzie’s connections are hoping there is more success to come in the trotter’s future.
“I think he’s the best, he’s also getting nicer to drive start after start,”Roy, a resident of Ontario, Guelph, said. “I’m excited for the end of the season with him.”
Fashion Frenzie, in addition to the Oct. 4 Gold Series Leg at Woodbine Mohawk Park and the Oct. 16 Super Final on Oct. 16, Fashion Frenzie will be eligible to the Goodtimes Trot with eliminations on Sept. 4 & the final Sept. 11 and the Sept. 18 Canadian Trotting Classic. The Goodtimes Trot will be restricted to the 10 horses with highest lifetime earnings at time of entry.
Woodbine Mohawk Park’s three-year-old trotting colts will be back in the spotlight on Tuesday, August 24, competing in a trio in Grassroots divisions worth $21,000 and more.
