Pretty much every major ’90s fashion trend has come back in recent years—notably fanny packs, scrunchies, white T-shirts worn underneath slip dresses. Fashion loves to revive a forgotten fad (right now, it’s all about 2000s pieces), but it appears Dua Lipa is bringing back another ’90s staple into 2022. Spotted in Miami this weekend, she revived the most polarizing summer shoe from the decade: Platform flip-flops.
With extra lift and little-to-no ankle support, they’re perhaps the easiest shoe to twist your ankle in—but that didn’t stop the singer from rocking them on the beach. To lean further into a ’90s vibe, Lipa paired her clunky, black Coperni shoes with a slinky Isa Boulder dress, which was all about exposing her black bikini underneath, and sparkly sunglasses. (Her beach read of choice? That would be Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns.)
If you were one to rock Steve Madden’s Slinky platform slides back in the ’90s, it may be officially time to dust them off come summer—they’ve got the famous fashion girl’s stamp of approval, after all. If you’re trying to rock them like Lipa, just practice walking in them a little before you leave the house. They require an almost-expert level of balance.
