GRAND RAPIDS — With food promises fashionVisitors had the opportunity to discover and celebrate culture Saturday, Aug. 14. 2021.
Calder Plaza was packed with hundreds for the third annual event. Highlights included a flag ceremony, in which all African countries were represented on the main stage.
A fashionThe show featured African fashion trends and local musicians performing. Participants had the opportunity to buy authentic African items, as well as try hair-braiding or henna tattoos.
Chair of A Glimpse Africa, Blessing Bamiro was thrilled to be back. The festival was held in 2020 but with a reduced capacity because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We were really eager to just engage with the community, and just bring back another show… and just continue to showcase the culture, embrace the people, and just spread the love,” Bamiro said.
“We’re just excited to grow as a organization to get bigger, create more structure and be able to bring more events to the community.”
